The Next Yes…
Have you ever noticed, God starts with a prompt and we follow with a question or resistance. The Holy Spirit prompts…give. We think, Do we really have the money to give? He prompts lead…I’m not sure I’m qualified to lead.
God starts with something specific…drill a water well. We respond with a problem…I don’t have the money to drill a water well. Which leads to another issue, a deeper issue…if I say yes to drilling a water well, will God be faithful? Will He provide the way? Can I trust Him? Is He really good?
Although the prompting may be different, the story looks the same for each of us. A command turns into a question which is rooted in doubt. Your ability to take the leap of faith depends on what happens between the prompt and your response to the question rooted in doubt.
God used one leap of faith to a water-well in Uganda to teach me how to say yes to Him.
He pulled back the veil just enough for me to see the difference between a life of going through the motions and one where faith trumps doubt. I walked away thinking…Lord don’t let me waste my life.
I don’t believe you want to waste your life either. I believe you want to see the ripple effect of your faith span generations and impact the world. I believe that desire is from God. (Mat. 28:19-20) And I believe God wants to grant the desires of your heart. (Ps. 37:4)
God wants to equip you to say yes. He wants to fully satisfy the purpose He has for you. He wants to pour out His favor on each of your God-ordained gifts, talents and passions so that you may touch others with His grace, hope, strength and love. The only way we experience complete satisfaction is when we allow God to use us to accomplish His will and glorify Him.
When God uses us to glorify Him, we see the Sea’s parted, leper’s healed and the dead raised. We see the impossible made possible. Addictions broken, hearts changed and relationships restored.
I’m concerned many of us have inadvertently exchanged the extraordinary for the ordinary. We have sacrificed the fulfillment of our souls for the illusion of security.
This is why I am so passionate about unraveling the mystery and power behind saying yes, Lord. I want to experience every blessing, adventure and miracle found in obeying God. It’s the real deal. The rest for our souls we desperately seek.
If you haven’t heard our leap of faith you can listen on the February 24 episode of the Depth podcast found here: https://link.chtbl.com/vZzTid7o
It’s approximately 30 minutes and shares a few imperfections that add to the drama. My humanity.
On May 22, we will begin digging a little deeper to unravel yes. Specifically, we will debate opportunity versus obstacle. Savior versus Lord.
Each month, I will share a new teaching on yes. It will be a lesson God taught to equip me to step out in faith and submit the next yes in our journey to the well.
People often say…”Tell me the story about your water well”. More than a trip itinerary or a Ugandan story, I believe they are asking…”What had God been doing in your life to get you up off your couch and half-way around the world?”. It’s a great question but a long answer. Longer than a podcast or a blog post. It’s a series of lessons God taught me.
I believe people ask the question because they have the same urge. They desire to get off their couch and be used by God. Sometimes they just don’t know how. They are not sure of the next step, the next yes.
I want to spend the next year teaching you how to say yes. I want to share with you what God taught me…
