The day in between…
Happy Easter to all my dear friends and family!
Although Easter is the same this year, our world seems a little different.
This year, I seem to be stuck “in between”. In between, where I am and where I want to be. The space between indecision and obedience.
If you read the Easter account in the Gospels, you’ll notice little is written about the day “in between” the crucifixion and the resurrection. But what a day it must have been.
The day after devastation. A day when all hope seemed lost. A day when the way forward seemed unclear. A day when everything you thought you knew is no more.
Interestingly, the Jews experienced a God mandated “time-out”. The day “in between” the crucifixion and resurrection was the Sabbath. Everyone was required to be still. Their world required to be quiet. And that’s exactly what I find in the gospels. It’s “quiet” about the day in between.
The crosses in my life drive me to my Savior. When God raises the dead things to life, I am overcome with praise for Him.
But the days in between the crosses and the resurrections in my life, are their own battles. I cannot live in devastation but I’m left unsure of how to daily process the cross. I struggle to move forward when the way seems unclear. I struggle to press in and press on.
What do you do when you no longer know what to do?
God gave the disciples one day to decide. What will you do? Will you still believe? Will you still pursue?
The day after the Sabbath, the women got up and pursued their Savior in His tomb. But the tomb was empty.
The disciples obeyed. Peter and John ran in search of Jesus at the tomb. Then the disciples gathered together, they went to Galilee. Thomas wrestled with unbelief.
The risen Christ met them all where they were. He met the women outside the empty tomb. He met Thomas in his lack of faith and propelled him forward. He met the eleven in Galilee.
He met two travelers on the road to Emmaus. As they discussed Jesus and all that had happened, He revealed Himself to them.
Don’t let the day in between knock you off course. It’s a quiet day, but a critical day. Use the day in between to strengthen your resolve.
When you feel defeated–get up and move forward. When you feel unsure of the way–get up and move forward. When you struggle to press in and press on–get up and move forward.
Say yes. Keep pursuing the Risen Savior. He will meet you wherever you are if—you will get up and move forward.
